Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an office memorandum on Monday (November 18, 2024) saying that “salary of their officials will be cleared only after completion of compulsory iGOT courses”.
The 2024 National Learning Week, or Karmayogi Saptah, to train the skills of civil servants in India has been recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
iGOT is an online learning platform for the training of Government Officials of India. Developed as a part of the Digital India stack, the platform is designed for online learning on multi-device platforms anywhere and anytime.
In the memorandum, it was also stated that “all Principal Accounts Offices (PAOs) of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will clear the salary bills only for those officials who have been certified by their Drawing and Dismissing Officer and Head of Office to have completed compulsory iGOT courses.”. In the other cases where certificates are not submitted, salary bills would be put on hold until further order,’ it added. ’
As communicated by the Central Government, this programme is intended to make civil services more responsive, effective and future-ready.
These include talks by experts from various fields covering topics in governance, AI, start-up ecosystems, etc., and programmes that enable collaboration and collective learning; programs planned as part of this. The ‘Adarsh Karmayogi Award is given to employees who finish number of courses on the iGOT Karmayogi portal.
According to a release from the Ministry, this will be observed as Karmayogi Saptah – National Learning Week October 19 to November 14.
Expressing extraordinary response to the programme, the Central government in its release also stated that various ministries and departments, along with Civil Service Training Institutes have committed themselves as a group towards it.
A staggering 31.4 lakh hours of learning were recorded during the event, with a total enrolment of: 45.4 lakh; Course Completion: 32.5Lakhs and Impact in Learning Hours:38.5 Lakhs. A release from the ministry said, ”In all 7.45 lakh civil servants registered, out of which 4.21 lakh met the target of four hours of competency-linked learning.’
